Kentucky Derby champion Big Brown is a big favorite to win the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown.
Bodog has Big Brown at 1-4 moneyline odds to win the 133rd running of the $1-million Preakness on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.
If Big Brown comes through and wins the Preakness, it will have a shot at the Triple Crown with a win at the 140th Belmont Stakes on June 7. No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
Big Brown won the 134th Kentucky Derby on May 3, becoming the first horse to win the Run for the Roses after just three career starts since the filly Regret managed that feat in 1915. He also became the first horse since the gelding Clyde Van Dusen in 1929 to win from the outside No. 20 post position.
Behindatthebar, trained by Todd Pletcher, is the next favorite at +800 at betED.com. Behindthebar won the Grade II Coolmore Lexington race on April 19.
Hey Byrn and Macho Again are both 20-1 at Bodog, while betED.com has them at +1500 and +1800, respectively.
One longshot that’s attracting a lot of attention is Kentucky Bear. Odds for Kentucky Bear vary at online sportsbooks, with Bodog offering 12-1 and betED.com +2300. Kentucky Bear’s trainers say the horse will be well-rested after skipping the Derby. The son of Mr. Greeley, which sired 40 individual stakes winners, did not earn enough graded-stakes money to secure a spot in America's top race.
The Preakness will likely have a field of 13, with Arkansas Derby winner Gayego confirmed to be taking part. Gayego, who finished 17th in the 20-horse Derby after a troubled trip, joins Big Brown as the only horse to make the journey from Churchill Downs to Baltimore.
The Preakness starts at 5 pm ET and can be seen on NBC.
